So... few days late but first blog of my months supermarket challenge!
On a whim ive decided NOT to buy any food from a supermarket for at least a month... Not for any great social reason other than just to see if I can! Ive not planned or prepared or prestocked my cupboards. I will just fly it and see where it take me.
Saturday 3rd saw a trip to Usk Farmers market, and yum yum yum, what a wonderful array of produce. Came home with an odd assortment as it was while I was here that i decided upon my challenge. A savoy cabbage, 3 leeks, Hommity pie (cheese and onion to us non foodies), pork sausages, 6 eggs, chorizo cured sausages, and fresh ground coffee later.....Im wondering what to have for dinner!
A quick raid of freezer produced mince for bolognase, admittedly this was bought from a supermarket, but I cant bear waste so part of challenge will be to get creative with whats in cupboards and freezer... and only restocking with Local produce from markets/farm shops.
Sunday 4th - forgot to make bread last night, cant find weighing scales... thank goodness for google and a set of American 'cups' oh and no recipe book for bread maker! Had all the ingredients in store cupboard for making bread, so its been a bit of this and a bit of that, and dough now mixing away. Slight issue with by 2 year old springer Toby, who got freaked out by the 'whir' of the breadmaker... seems it sounds like a big hairy scary dog and he had to stand and bark at it. (protecting me from the yeast beast ;-))
Purchased fresh ground Cafe Nativo organic coffee at the market... oosh that's put hairs on my chest this morning! (see I'm typing sooo fast!) deliciously rich and certainly waking me up this rainy Sunday morning!
links for my finds so far!
